A is for Apples

A girl I know here teaches a Kindermusic class. Although we'd love to be part of the regular classes, we are not currently enrolled (maybe after the new year...or after Disney...we'll see). However, she was sweet enough to invite us to a special class/play date she was holding at the park on Wednesday. The theme was apples and we began by gathering together on the grass to play instruments, sing songs and dance (wiggle, jiggle, whatever). The kids then went to run around on the playground for a bit while a craft was set up. Madeline and Ethan then got to decorate their own apples (including the use of glitter!!! anyone who knows me knows I looooove to do arts and crafts with the kids every day, but glitter is NOT something we have in this house!!... so it was extra exciting for them!). After the craft, a nice snack was provided. Madeline LOVED that she got to use was of those cool apple slicer gadgets. I think we may have one somewhere...I need to start digging. Ethan ate up much of the apple strudel and apple bread (the boy loved it and not many others were touching it) as well as a little apple. Oh, and of course, we had apple juice. It was a wonderful morning at the park, finished my Ethan in just his undies and Madeline in her clothes, running through the splash pad. Ethan has never enjoyed the splash pad during the millions of visits we've had to this park previously, but of course, now as we soon enter October....he loves it.

Half Pint Paint Play Date

My friend, Brooke, is starting up a mobile art studio in the CSRA. It's called Half Pint Paint. She asked me if she could do a demo class through our moms group and I jumped right on it!! I've been looking and looking for some sort of art classes that would be geared towards Madeline's age and haven't found anything in the area. So when she told me about her plans, I was thrilled! She held a demo class at her house (to get pictures for her blog), which we were invited to, and we loved it! If you visit her website, you can see pictures from that event. In order to hit more clientele, I asked her if she wanted to do a demo class at one of our neighborhood play dates. The pictures below are from that event :) I was impressed with how well every child looked at Brooke and listened to the lesson: Mister I-don't-like-to-get-messy loved the art lesson and got right to work:

Not so much into finger painting:
Madeline on the other hand:

This lesson was about artist Jasper John and using cool and warm colors as well as different materials to create texture in the collages:
TaDa!!!! They looked a little Eric Carleish to me....LOVED IT!!! THANKS BROOKE!

Today's Tidbits

Madeline loves anything crafty! and she spends hours a day dreaming up crafts and constructing them. First thing this morning, she wanted to make a mask. She asked for a plate and told me where to cut a few holes, then she got to decorating. When she was finished, she asked me to attached some string so she could wear it. I follow directions well, and did as I was politely asked. Then she got into character:
Growling and laughing at the same time:
On Tuesday, the kids and I went with our Moms' group to a park we haven't visited before, Reed Creek Park. It was beautiful and very close. A lady did some songs, stories, lessons and a nature walk with our group. It was a wonderful morning!! Madeline and Ethan decorated these leaves:
Wednesday, Madeline spent some time over her friend, Mariah's house. I'm sure Madeline was in her glory when she saw the fun craft they were going to get to do!!!
Last week, while my friend Renee was visiting, I was showing her how to sew one of these little snack bags. I already had some dinosaur fabric cut, so when I was done making it, it became Ethan's bag. He's used it every day now and Madeline really wanted one of her own. So this afternoon, I let her pick out a piece of fabric and "help" me sew her one. Here they are having a snack from their new bags (typically these are the bags I'd keep in my purse for when we're out):
Just because I think it's funny how much I made, here's a picture of the chili I made for Doug (and Ethan) tonight. It was my first attempt, and I was just following a recipe. The recipe apparently was sized for a competition my friend was in that had 50+ tasters. Doug now has enough chili to last him the winter!
They both played with Lego's for so long today, I had to snap a picture before interrupting them to prepare for bed:
I love our family :)

Ethan's 1st art project!

Today was the second week of a Lenten Bible Study I am attending at our church, but the first week that I dropped the kids off at the child care they provide. The kids had a blast and can't wait to go back next week! There was a teenage girl there (that was helping out the adults) who decided she wanted to attempt a craft with Ethan. Between the two of them, this is what they came up with. The girl said that Ethan just kept wanting to use the glitter glue. I asked if he tried to eat it and they, surprisingly, said no! he has been getting the hang of how these kind of stickers work, but the first time he's placed them on his own paper. Anyway, here's what I would consider his first art project:
