The day we arrived at our hotel, we dumped our luggage in our room and headed straight over to Magic Kingdom. We got there a couple hours later than we had originally planned, but we got a later start and then a fussy little boy slowed down our trip a bit. But no
biggy, we still got there in plenty of time catch up with some family and hit the rides! The first ones we saw were Doug's older brother's family. Here's Madeline with two of her cousins, Julie and Lily:

Madeline and Lily (who is about a year older than Madeline) loved having each other's company. During our entire vacation, whenever our families were together, you'd find these two together:

The first ride we did as soon as we got there was the Haunted Mansion. Yes, we took the kids on that. We were skeptical, but figured we could just close their eyes. They both did fine, we just pointed out all the non-
scary things. Next, Doug and I took Madeline on Splash Mountain. I knew I'd hate this ride, but we went anyway. Madeline never fussed or cried during the whole thing (unlike her mother) but when it was over she said she never wanted to go on it again! We're pretty sure we paid the price for taking her on those two rides first. She was scared of every ride from that day on. When we went to Disney in September, she wasn't scared of anything...but we didn't go on anything
scary. She still went on a lot of rides, but it always took convincing and
reassuring. We really regret dragging her on those first couple rides, but live and learn, right? We also regret not purchasing the picture of her going on Splash Mountain!!!
That night, before we all tucked into bed, Doug's baby sister, Mary, came by our room with gifts she brought back from her semester in Italy. Madeline LOVED her mask! She kept wanting to wear it to the parks each day, but I had to explain to her that it was a special mask to be hung up in her room and worn for special occasions...she was usually OK with that.

That's how we ended our first night in Disney :)
