Uh-Oh

It finally happened, Doug got hurt during his Jiu Jitsu class on Wednesday. Apparently he went to sweep a guy (bigger than him), and something happened to his knee that brought him down. It bothered him for a couple days, making it a little difficult to walk, but it seemed to be getting better. Then, Friday night, thinking he was almost recovered, he went to jump up from the couch to get a book from Ethan that he was about to tear up, when his knee gave out again. It really bothered him that night and again in the morning, so he decided to go to the doctors on Saturday just to have them take a look and rule out anything serious. Well, the good news is Doug's blood pressure is "excellent" (as the nurse said). He's been battling very high blood pressure for years now, so we're happy to see that it's very under control now (without medicine and while in pain at a doctors office!). We attribute this to the intense exercise program he's doing...so I guess I'll let him stick to it once the knee heals. So anyway, back to the knee... the swelling was too great for them to do any sort of x-rays. He's supposed to go early this week to get an MRI on it. It could be something minor that just needs time and rest to heal, or it could be some sort of tear. We'll know more later this week. Until then, the poor baby is on couch rest (see above).

"Don't worry Lamby, I'm coming to save you!"

As many of you know, Madeline has a favorite stuffed animal, a lamb, that is named Lamby. This little lamb has gone everywhere with her and has certainly become a security blanket for the little princess. This, of course, has advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages:
1. She always has a piece of home with her wherever we go, how far we travel, or where we may spend the night.
2. It really helps with her bedtime routine. She gets Lamby, I read her a few books in bed, I leave...but she still has Lamby and feels safe :)
3. It's cute!
4. Teaches her responsibility.

Disadvantages:
1. It could get lost!!!!

Anyway, earlier today we decided to take a trip to the mall and then to Sams Club. Madeline brought Lamby in the car with her which these days is not something she always does. She's OK with leaving her home, but I think she knew she was a little sleepy and Lamby would help her take a nap in the car. We're at the point now, though, that Lamby never leaves the car, except to go back in the house. Apparently, Doug and I were so busy chatting while we were going into the mall, that we didn't pay attention to the fact that Madeline was bringing Lamby with her. After we left the mall, we went to Sams, then drove home. On the way home Madeline asked where Lamby was. Doug and I looked at each other with a panicked look. When we got home we looked all over the car...then got on the phone. The second store, Children's Place, we called had it!! As Madeline and I were walking to the front door to leave to get Lamby, Madeline shouted, "Don't worry Lamby, I'm coming to save you!!" Well, that had Doug and I hysterical.

Here is a picture of the princess on the way back to the mall to save Lamby:

I thought it would be cute to get a picture of her getting her Lamby back from the clerk, but when we walked up to the counter and she saw Lamby sitting on the shelf behind the registers, she started crying...and not just a little cry, she was really upset! Like my mom said, I guess it was like a mother who finds her lost kid...just overwhelmed with emotions. I did eventually snap a couple pictures of her with her Lamby:

This was after I got her to stop crying. Poor thing :(

We walked around the store for a bit and she helped me pick out a bathing suit for Ethan for next summer (it was only 4 bucks!!). Here is a picture of her talking to the young lady working there. The ladies there loved Madeline and felt terrible when she started crying. They were very happy to see Madeline recover and chit-chat with them.

On the way home we had to run into the grocery store. As I was getting Madeline out she asked if Lamby could come in with her. I told her yes because I felt like she was still recovering from the whole situation...I just didn't have the heart to say no. Madeline started to get out of the car with Lamby, then stopped and I could tell she was thinking really hard. She said, "No! Lamby stay right here in the car seat." Well, I guess she learned a little about responsibility today.

t...r...o...u...b...l...e...

Madeline was coloring at the kitchen table the other day and we needed to start getting dressed for the day, so I asked her to bring her book and markers to the family room to color for a couple minutes. I went into the bedroom, right around the corner, and quickly changed into some jeans. Then I heard her say, "uh oh, dropped the book." So I came out to pick her book back up for her and this is what I saw: I was not happy as she knows we only color on paper. She has drawn on her hands a few times here and there and occasionally a little on her legs, but she always goes to time out for it and she hasn't done it in quite a while, so I was blown away to see this. She's been a bit of a stinker recently, so I guess I wasn't all too surprised she colored on herself...but I couldn't believe HOW MUCH she had colored on herself and how fast! I was reluctant to take pictures because I didn't want her to think it was OK...but I couldn't resist. This HAS to be documented! At first she could tell I was very upset, but when I started taking a couple pictures, she started laughing:
Normally, I would have her go sit in time out, but I didn't want her touching ANYTHING except the bathtub. You can't tell in the picture above, but she had it all over her legs, feet and hands too. We went straight up to the tub, leaving red hand prints along the way. Surprisingly, the marker came up perfectly from the furniture and walls, but as you can see....it doesn't wash from the skin as well as you would think:
That was a post-bath picture. She's crying because she's sad that "mommy's sad, mommy's not happy." She was also crying because Mommy wouldn't turn the TV on for her.
We had a talk about it and Daddy talked to her again when he got home, and "mommy was happy." We went down to the playground to cheer everyone up.

For my birthday...

...I got a flat tire.
On our way to meet with my mom's group, I apparently ran over something. I was very close to my destination, fortunately, when it happened. I heard a little pop as I was driving, but didn't see anything in the road and thought nothing of it. The when I pulled into the parking lot, and got out of the car I could hear the "hissing" sound. I followed it to my back tire that was gushing out air. Within 10 minutes, my tire looked like the picture above. A couple moms were going to help me change the tire, but when we realized the spare (full size) was located under the 4Runner, we realized the job was too big for us. One of the moms, Melissa, called her husband who worked close by. He works on cars and was very happy to come by and give me a hand. Jimmy (and his son, Trevor) changed the tire :)It turns out I ran over a jewelers screwdriver. At least we're pretty sure that's what it is. We'll find out for sure when we take it somewhere to get patched.
